Richard Heene Arrested, 1997

Richard Heene the father (using that word loosely, perhaps) of Balloon boy will now face charges for his family's media hoax, but according to TMZ's details below about Heene's 1997 arrest it turns out this isn't the first time he's been in trouble with the law.

According to the ever-nosy TMZ.com, Richard Heene was arrested in 1997 for vandalism, vehicle tampering, & disturbing the peace, in LA. He didn't face serious legal consequences for charges, apparently, and his attorney as he faces these current charges in court had no comment on the past arrest. Still he Richard Heene had better have excellent legal help this time around, because he's in much bigger trouble this time.

This is such a shame that someone would feel the need to go to this extreme just to get 15 mins of fame especially at the expense of his own children. Being a mother myself of 2 small precious children I can't imagine putting their lives in any kind of danger whatsoever. Shame on these parents, if you can call them parents, for putting their own self-centered and shelfish needs before their very own children.
This family needs extensive mental help which I truly hope that they get.

This is absolutely pathetic and the media is even more pathetic for giving this story more than it's fifteen minutes of fame!

As the mother of 2 bipolar children, I would suspect that Mr Heene is bipolar. Many bipolar people want to be the center of their world. Their minds are racing from one thought to another (manic stage), and they often have terrible tempers because they don't want to be stopped from whatever their action oriented mind convinces them to do to get to the goal. They are usually risk-takers, often have money problems and job problems. Medication (NOT alcohol or pot) will curb most of these behaviors, and allow them to live normal lives.

Wow, 2 children w/bipolar you must be one very strong person and you have probably nailed it right on the head in regards to Richard Heene.

The more quickly this whole story is forgotten the better. Media attention to things like this just encourages more stunts of the same nature. Didn't someone smell a rat while this was going down?

Wow, this is so ridiculous. I watched the news as this happened last Thursday and I along with people around the world were praying for the little boy's safety up in the sky. Of course I was skeptical about a Helium balloon even being capable of lifting off with a 35 pound boy inside, but this man was idiotic enough to gain 15 minutes in fame only to get his dumbass in trouble with the law! He even looked very fake in those News interviews and the whole time he looked like a big fat liar! He didn't even look greatful or act happy when he hugged his little boy in an interview. I thought he went to acting school!! I hope he gets what he deserves and his wife too who creepily never said ANYTHING during any interview. Talk about whipped..
