George Lopez & Wanda Sykes (VIDEO)

George Lopez & Wanda Sykes are set to invade the late-night TV talk world thie month, as they each debut new shows. Whatare their chances of succeeding?

Wanda Sykes is debuting a Fox show on Saturday nights, while George Lopez (whom I especially loved in his Reno 911 cameos.) is planting his flag on TBS. I agree with the blog post below, that success for these new shows hosted by people of color lies in resonating with today's cultural landscape, which is a post-Obama-victory landscape specifically in TV terms a post-Chappelle landscape. David Alan Grier and D.L. Hughley felte like they were trying to pick up a10-15 year old conversations, that just didn't fit in 2009.

I'll be watching both shows and rooting for George and Wanda to win! Always thought they were smart, funny performers.

With the (apparent) success of The Mo'Nique Show, will Wanda Sykes and George Lopez similarly excel in late night, or will they go the way of other recent shows by comedians of color, like David Alan Grier's short-lived Chocolate News and CNN's dull DL Hughley Breaks the News? They'll have to be edgy and interesting: the problem with Grier and Hughley was they were too soft for a post-Chappelle age...
