Joe Greene to Receive Award (VIDEO)

Mean Joe Greene will finally receive an award for his classic coke commercial, awarded to him before the Steelers game this Sunday.

Joe Greene will receive a Clio award, the award given each year to the best commercials and advertisements, for his role in one of the most famous TV ads ever, his legendary Coca-Cola ad where a young boy gives him a bottle of Coke, and then he tosses the kid his football jersey (whichc would now be a pretty sweet throwback jersey). The Clio was actually awarded 30 years ago when the ad first hit TV sets, but somehow Joe Greene never got his award, so the Clios are taking this opportunity to make things right on the thirtieth anniversary.

Prior to the Bengals-Steelers game this Sunday, Hall of Fame defensive tackle "Mean" Joe Greene will be on hand to accept his Clio award (thirty years after the fact!) for his work in the legendary 1979 Coca-Cola commercial that featured nine-year-old boy Tommy Okon offering Greene his Coke, and Mean Joe tossing his Steelers jersey to Okon as a gesture of thanks...

I have always thought that, that was one of the best commercials of all times. There should be more like that one. Congrats, Mr. Greene.

The commercials shows how mean we really are. Everybody deep inside has that warn and fuzzy feeling. I've loved this commerical from first I saw it, 30 years ago.

I am 72 & no longer an NFL fan, but that commercial shall be forever imbedded in my memory. Some of the beer com's of that era were nearly as entertaining but the Joe Greene/Coke com. stands out! Where has the imagination of the ad people gone????

I am 72 & no longer an NFL fan, but that commercial shall be forever imbedded in my memory. There were other great comm's from that era--namely some of the Lite beer commercials--but none matched the Joe Greene/Coke comm. Where have all those brilliant ad people gone???

This commercial has been one of my all time favorites. Wouldn't it be wonderful if you could find the young actor who helped to pull it off and make it so memorable after all these years?
Start lookin'.
