Michael Oher Doesn't Speak to Biological Mother Denise Oher, & His Father Was Murdered

Michael Oher has become one of the most inspiring stories in sports, with his rise from homeless youth to NFL star that is documented in the new movie "The Blind Side." But his biological parents, sadly, doesn't get to share in this newfound happiness, as Michael Oher doesn't speak to his biological mother Denise, and his father was murdered years ago.

Michael Oher was homeless and had nothing going for him in life when he was adopted by the Tuohy family, and gt a chance to turn his life around. But his mother, a crack cocaine addict for most of her life, remained on the opposite path, and now the two never speak anymore. A tragic side to this story, but sometimes you have to accept that everyone cannot be saved, and focus on saving the ones you can. Which is usually the ones who are ready to save themselves, and just need you to help give them that shot.

this story has hit so close to home. My husband and i have taken in a boy who is 16 years old and we also have 3 biological teenage boys of our own. His name is Angel wilson and our last name just happens to be Angel. He has been living with us since June of this year. He also is a fantastic football player he and my son play for Beaumont High School in California. He is a sophmore and plays varsity football. It was difficult at first to have him with us mainly because i didnt really know him. He played football for my husband last year,he could really talk to my husband. We struggle financially but if we can make a difference in his life than its worth the struggle. When i saw clips of this movie it really touched my heart. Angel is a great kid and i am so blessed to have him part of our family.

There are plenty of good people in the world you just have to look this family took this young man and help him to succed in life and now look at him. God will bless people like them. To the family that took that 16 yo in God will bless you too. Hearing this story has made me want to complete one thing in my life to help the unforunate kids here on this earth and with prayers I will complete it and be able to start helping kids like these good people in the movie and the others that have had no movie made about them. I Thank all that have helped these unforunate kids.

At some point in time I hope the young man grows and learn to forgive his birth mother and father. It's easy to blame and dislike/hate them for what they did/didn't do, but by forgiving them will come back to him 10 fold down the road...let's not forget, that we've ALL come short of the glory at some point in our lives.

to the person who said he should forgive his birth parents:

He probably has, but it probably saddens him to be around that. Sometimes you can forgive, but you have to walk away from that person in order to move on in your life... because it is depressing to see that and it makes the person who is trying to move on, want to go back to their old life. I haven't had a crack addict parent... but I do have a disfunctional family, who I do love... but I moved across the country because I knew if I would have stayed, I would have turned out like them... and sometimes even though I know that the way my family lives is the way I want to live, I get caught up when something good happens... then I think I want to be back there. But then I realize what my life was like before. I talk to my family, and I love them... but he may not be able to talk to his mom because it makes him sad... or she seems liek she is getting better, but then doesn't so it gets his hopes up...

I agree that he probably has forgiven his mom but chooses to not be around that lifestyle and who can blame him? Has his mom ever made an attempt to get help? She has to WANT to get better or she never will. It is very sad that they don't talk but I wonder how much she really cares since she didn't care enough to take care of him as a child and doesn't look like she wants to be a part of his life now. Thank God he has the Touhy's who truly love and care for this young man.

Anybody that does drugs they are not themselves in mind..his mom maybe never had love and affection growing up in her life sametimes is easy for us to judge or to be angry...and i do believe she suffer from depression and maybe her childhood was not right (who knows)???? we just have to forgive and realize that maybe that person need to hear 3 simple words i love you...and i am here for you if you need me..ten is up to the person to came to us for help...and for love...good day for all of you out there!!!!
