Jennifer Hudson is set to star in a new Winnie Mandela biopic, telling the story of Nelson Mandela's famous and controversial longtime wife.

Winnie Mandela became an important symbol and activist in her own right, as her husband spent 27 years in prison for his anti-apartheid activism. But in later years she faced major controversy over alleged connections to the death of another activist, and corruption charges, and their marriage ended soon after Nelson was released.

But the Oscar-winning actress and singerJennifer Hudson hopes to show Winnie's complexity and her heroic and human side as well, as she takes the lead making a movie out of this complex and important story.
