Many people have been hoping the "cougar" craze would die a quick death, but it would appear it's still going strong. Strong enough to have its own beauty pageant, even!

A California woman was just crowned the first annual(?) Miss Cougar, beating out stiff competition from various other older women, whose claim to fame is that they prefer the company of youner men. The winner Gloria Navarro, won in front of an audience full of the young men she claims as her prey...or however this works.

The younger men, known as cubs in this alternate bizarro world, lapped up the display of these older sex symbols, and with any luck some cougar-cub romance was sparked. As far as I'm concerned, there shouldn't even be anything strange about an older woman being with a younger man, and we shouldn't need a special name for it. The winner of the first annual Miss Cougar America contest is ... California's own Gloria Navarro. Navarro, of Redwood Shores, California won the esteemed title of Miss Cougar America at the National Single Cougars Convention, this last Friday in Palo Alto, Calif. The 42-year-old, who was recently divorced, is a suburban management consultant accepted her new title before more than 200 attractive guests, most of them men in their 20s, 30s and 40s.
