Epatha Merkerson: Law & Order Farewell

One of the most recognizable stars of Law & Order, S. Epatha Merkerson, has asked producers to let her retire after this upcoming season, her 16th.

Merkerson is famous for playing Lt. Van Buren, but feels it is time to move on from the venerated TV institution and see what else is out there.

Said Merkerson about her final days on the TV classic: "It's a graceful way to go. It's the end of my contract this year, and the storyline has been so perfect. I've given it my best for 16 years. I'm doing other things and this will be a great way to leave what has been an extraordinary gig."
