Dewyze Debut: Fail?

Lee Dewyze, winner of this season of American Idol, had his pop chart debut this week, but was it a sign that America's just not that into him?

The Dewyze single, his cover version of U2 "Beautiful Day", came in at #12 on the digital downloads chart, and 24th on the Hot 100 chart. The runner up Crystal Bowersox, considered by many a much better singer than Dewyze, also had a relatively low debut.

but many would say that Dewyze and Bowersox are only the victims of an Idol season that had too many distractions and too little chemistry, as the judges had changed, Simon Cowell was leaving and the overall talent didn't seem as strong.

"American Idol" winner Lee DeWyze failed to crack Billboard's Top 10 singles and digital charts in one of the most tepid debuts yet from a champion of the top-rated reality TV show. DeWyze's cover version of U2's "Beautiful Day" entered in 12th place on the digital charts with 95,000 downloads, and in 24th place on the Hot 100 singles charts, according to Nielsen SoundScan data on Thursday. Runner-up Crystal Bowersox fared no better. Her finale song last week, "Up To the Mountain", debuted at No. 57 on the singles charts and 32nd place on the digital charts with 49,000 downloads.
