Sarah Palin Stepping Down As Governor

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

I'm still hoping this means a run for president, which would be a guaranteed loss for the Republicans. But seems more likely Sarah Palin will be aiming for the Senate next year, presumably with a good shot at winning.

EDIT: Okay now that I saw her press conference, I take it back. I dunno what the heck she's doing. And her point guard analogies makes me want to never watch basketball again.

Gov. Sarah Palin will resign her office in a few weeks, she said during a news conference at her Wasilla home Friday morning. Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated at the Governor's Picnic at Pioneer Park in Fairbanks on Saturday, July 25, Palin said.

There was no immediate word as to why she will resign, though speculation has been rampant that the former vice presidential candidate is gearing up for a run at the 2012 Republican presidential nomination. Palin made the announcement flanked by Parnell and most, if not all, of her cabinet.

    Are you kidding me?

Joe Jackson is reportedly hoping to take Michael Jackson’s three children on tour in 2010, a biographer of Michael Jackson claimed on Monday. Ian Halperin, a celebrity biographer claimed in The Sun Newspaper that a source close to the family told him Michael’s father already has plans for Prince Michael I, 12; Paris Michael Katherine, 11; and Prince Michael II (Blanket), 7.

“Joe wants the children to go on a world tour in 2010. He has also already offered recording contracts to two of Michael’s kids,” Halperin said. “Now he is talking about getting them the world’s best backing band and taking them on tour as The Jackson Three,” he added.

    Shorter Sessions vs. Sotomayor

After watching Jeff Sessions today, I'm pretty sure his approach to questioning Sonia Sotomayor was modeled after Steve Carell in this scene. (Note: I don't endorse usage of the word "retarded.")

Rachel Maddow had Pat Buchanan back on her show Thursday evening to discuss the Sonia Sotomayor Supreme Court nomination and Buchanan went over the edge with a 'white people built this country and deserve more' rant.

Buchanan said he considered Sotomayor unqualified and called her an "affirmative-action appointment" by President Obama. As Maddow pressed him on why he was critical of affirmative action, Buchanan launched into a vigorous defense of whites who have been discriminated against....

Paul McCartney at Citi Field (VIDEO)

Cool footage of the god Sir Paul McCartney at Citi Field last night, bringing things back full circle after the Beatles historic show at Shea in 1966, and Paul's appearance helping close Shea down with Billy Joel last year.

Paul McCartney came to Citi Field on Friday night to bring a new ballpark one thing that can’t be built in: memories. No one was better qualified.

As a 23-year-old Beatle, Mr. McCartney introduced rock to a stadium audience on August 15, 1965, when the Beatles played a 34-minute set at Shea Stadium, which Citi Field replaced. The Beatles returned to Shea in 1966 on what would be their last tour...

LL Cool J was stuck in quarantine for three hours after a dramatic plane flight from LA to Missouri. After an emergency landing in Kansas City, one of the passengers fell ill, resulting in a three-hour quarantine for all other flyers.

One passenger told ESPN: "I have to say that he couldn't have been more cool with all of us. Some of us wanted to get a photo with him and he was just great about it. Given the situation, no-one would have blamed him if he'd said 'hey, not now' but he said 'sure!' and provided big hugs and warm smiles for us. Major major points for being a true gentleman and a trooper..."

Henry Louis Gates Interview on Being Arrested

Beyond the racial aspects of this, it seems like the officer arrested Prof. Gates mostly for an offense against the officer's ego, rather than a real offense against the law. I'm not a knee-jerk police hater and have seen many NYPD officers doing great work, but I've seen this happen way too many times in NY as well, officers contriving a reason to arrest someone, simply for committing an ego offense rather than a legal offense.

Looking forward to seeing the new work this inspired from the Professor. By the way, one lesson here seems to be: don't step out on the porch! The cops seem to have been waiting for him to step outside of hsi own property, because they couldn't make the arrest until he did so.

"There are one million black men in jail in this country and last Thursday I was one of them," he said in an interview with The Washington Post Tuesday morning. "This is outrageous and that this is how poor black men across the country are treated everyday in the criminal justice system. It's one thing to write about it, but altogether another to experience it..."

"I am appalled that any American could be treated as capriciously by an individual police officer. He should look into his soul and he should apologize to me," Gates said. "If so, I will be prepared to forgive him. I think that poor people in general and black people in general are vulnerable to the whims of rogue cops, and we all have to fight to protect the weakest among us. No matter how bad it was going to get, I knew that sooner or later I would get to a phone and one of my friends would be there to help..."
