Biggest Loser Criticism: Bad For Dieters?


The "Biggest Loser" tv show keeps millions of American's glued to their screen, watching the obese competitors in a physical and emotional struggle to lose as much weight as they can. But is the show merely an inspiration for its overweight viewers, or is it also a bad influence?

Many people in the diet and health field have been critical of the show, saying it shows an unrealistic approach to weight loss that pushes people too hard and does not show how to implement a proper & healthy progressive program for weight loss with health and fitness. Generally in real life people are encouraged to lose only 1 or 2 pounds per week, but on Biggest Loser people lose far more, putting their body through extreme transformations in a very short amount of time. But the show's defenders insist it is a responsible portrayal and good insiration for its viewers who have weight to lose. More than one fitness pro questions the lack of physical progression and safety at the ranch.
