No Phone Zone Day

Oprah continues to press for her movement to eradicate texting on cell phones while driving, now calling for a No Phone Zone DAy to be recognized around the country.

Oprah's website also offers a pledge to sign on to digitally: "I pledge to make my car a No Phone Zone. Beginning right now, I will do my part to help put an end to distracted driving by committing to drive as responsibly as I can. I will not text while driving and will use only handsfree calling if I need to speak on the phone while I am driving."

A live episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" devoted entirely to the dangers of cellphone use and texting while driving is scheduled for Friday. The episode will include stories about families who lost loved ones, interviews with people who survived crashes and the debut of a public service announcement campaign, said Don Halcombe, a spokesman for Harpo Studios. Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm of Michigan is expected to appear during the live broadcast by satellite from Detroit and will sign a bill that bans texting while driving, Mr. Halcombe said.
