Oldest Tweeter Dies, at 104!


Sad news in twitterland as the world's oldest tweeter has bassed away at the age of 104.

Ivy Bean had been tweeting for years from her care home in Bradford England where she received top flight care at the center for the elderly. She became a famous twitter star with her lively presence online, attracting over 50,000 followers.

With the news of her passing condolences came from around the world, even from the wife of the Prime Minister Gordon Brown. People often wonder if the internet and social media are bad for your health, but it looks like this plucky woman stayed lively and young at heart through getting on twitter, so maybe it has some good uses after all.

Ivy Bean, who became an online celebrity as the oldest known user of micro-blogging site Twitter, has died at the age of 104. Pat Wright, manager of the care home where she lived in Bradford, northern England, says Bean died peacefully early Wednesday. Wright said Bean "grabbed new technology. She would try anything." Bean joined Twitter in 2008 and amassed more than 56,000 followers. They included Sarah Brown, wife of former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who tweeted Wednesday: "Sad to hear the news of Ivy Bean's passing. A great spirit and sense of humor; highly respected senior ambassador for Twitter."
