Cotto vs. Margarito Fight (video)

Cotto vs. Margarito Fight

Miguel Cotto vs. Antonio Margarito is more than just a fight to determine the world's best welterweight Saturday (HBO Pay-Per-View, 9 p.m. ET).

It's about honor — and country — no matter how much both combatants attempt to shy away from the talk. "The great fights and the tradition, more than anything it's the way they fight each other," Margarito, from Tijuana, said of the rivalry through an interpreter. "Had they not made great fights, no one would care.

"I don't look at (Cotto) as a Puerto Rican. I look at him as another opponent."

Fighters from Puerto Rico (population 4 million) and Mexico (107 million) have met in at least 60 world title bouts, and both sides have dominated at times. Sixto Escobar was the island's first champion in 1936, knocking out Rodolfo Casanova, a Mexican, for the bantamweight title (118 pounds). It would be more than 20 years before another one, lightweight Carlos Ortiz.

"What boxing suffers from now is a lot of people don't have a rooting interest in one or other of the fighters," said Bob Arum, who promotes Cotto and Margarito. "You don't have rivalries (which) add tremendous buzz and spice to the matchup."

Video coming as soon as it's done..

Both fighters were warriors and put out more than anyone one of you haters could ever do. So don't turn this into a race war and appreciate it for what it was, a hard fought boxing match between too great fighters.

cotto is a very technical fighter i think he was showing off a little and there was to much technicality in his fighting, hes an excellent boxer in my opinion. He should have had more fighting in this fight, And margarito is a good boxer hes more of a fighter straight on kinda fighter, I think in my opinion if cotto would have not wore himself out so and gave more fight then run the outcome would have been diferent all the running wore him out really think so.But then agin we all know this is a business and there will be a revancha.cotto walked out like ok thats done.wonder how much he got for that? saludos a los Pomales, a todos.

Viva Margarito y viva Cotto Two of the very best and hard working fighters met and what a display of pure strength skill and Machismo from both sides. Soy Mexicano pero que gran pelea nos dieron los dos. Gracias

I AM SORRY, BUT TITO TRINIDAD WOULDN'T HAVE KEPT UP TO MARGARITO, TITO DID NOT TAKE HARD PUNCHES WELL AND HIS STRENGTH IN LATE ROUNDS WAS QUESTIONABLE. TONY MARGARITO WILL NOT HAVE REAL THREATS IN HIS NEXT FEW FIGHTS, WE WILL GO ON TO WIN THEM ALL!!!!

Jim Lampley was on Cottos nuts the whole fight. He never said a word about the punches Margarito was landing and from the looks of Cottos face it looks to me like he landed quite a few.Take nothing away from Cotto he fought a brilliant fight did everything right Margo was just to much for him to handle.Congradulations Margarito on an awesome display of determination and brute force.I would'nt fight Margo if I were Oscar.
