Delivering a much-anticipated address in Cairo Thursday, President Barack Obama called for a "new beginning between the United States and Muslims" that can reframe the debate on the fight against violent extremism and other key issues.

"We meet at a time of tension between the United States and Muslims around the world -- tension rooted in historical forces that go beyond any current policy debate," the president told an invited audience of 3,000 at Cairo University.

"I have come here to seek a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world, one based upon mutual interest and mutual respect," President Barack Obama said in the complete video below. "America and Islam are not exclusive, and need not be in competition."
