Actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers was detained by French police Saturday afternoon due to an incident in which he allegedly assaulted an airport lounge employee while drunk. Read more on Meyers arrest below.

Meyers, 31, an Irish actor, was in custody for a few hours after being involved in the skirmish with the bar employees, and reportedly punching one of them at the Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris Supposedly the bartender at the café area “Le Quotidien” in the departure area of the airport refused to serve Meyers, who appeared to be drunk. This was followed by an argument between Johnathan Rhys Meyers and the bar manager. Another bar employee tried to them when Meyers punched him.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers was arrested, handcuffed and placed in custody where he remained in a sober lock-up area in France for three hours before being released.

The AFP reported that Jonathan Rhys Meyers was told to appear before the Correctional Tribunal in Bobigny in September to answer charges concerning, “voluntary violence, contempt, issuing death threats and assault,” according to a judicial source.
