VIDEO: "I Look to You" Good Morning America, Whitney Houston

Here's the video of Whitney Houston singing "I Look to You" on Good Morning America this week. Whitney's voice was not the strongest in these new performances, and at one oiint she apologized, blaming it on the pressure of all the new media attention, but it's hard not to wonder if there are more long term issues with her vocal strength after all these years away from singing.

Still, Whitney's new music sounds great (I really like "Million Dollar Bill"), and after all she's been through it'd be great to see her return to the top of the charts.

I've always loved Whitney and was saddened to hear her voice so weak. I would think at a time when the world is watching to see if she could rise from obsecurity, that she'd be in top form. Which brings me to wonder if her voice isn't damaged from years of smoking crack. There are many heated debates on if she truly believed "crack is wack", but I think her actions speak for themselves.
I'm glad to see her get away from Bobby, becuase I think that was a big part of her problem.
I only hope that she can continue to forge ahead and go right to the top again and be the DIVA she once was.
She was a great talent. Let's hope she hasn't destroyed that talent with her life choices.
I pray for you Whitney and if you need a hand to help you back to the top, I'm here for you dahling!

keep singing sister. God will see you thru.

The voice is fuller and richer because of trials and tribulations she has gone through. I hope people accept the new voice for it bespeaks of the journery we all travel in this life when we do not make the richt decisions. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. God bless you Whitney and I hope you remember put not your faith and trust in man, but always look to God for this is where our help and strength comes from.

I knew through your faith Whitney, that God would bring you back to us. You look and sound fantastic welcome back I have missed you. Always a fan, Connie from Woodland, WA

THANK YOU GOD FOR BRINGING WHITNEY BACK TO US! Don't judge Whitney's voice as not being strong or good - any singer who comes out of the studio and sings in public always sounds different because in the studio you can smooth everything over - it's not easy trying to sing in public - WHITNEY YOU SOUNDED GREAT!!! WELCOME BACK - ALWAYS A FAN!!!

Whitney, Look until to Jesus, who is the Author and the finisher of our faith. Just remember where you came from and allow Jesus to fuller fill you with his desires in your heart. Because, when it's all said and done, for what profits the man who gain the whole world and loses his soul he profits NOTHING!!

My heart is full of joy to see Whitney Houston
singing on stage. So often we forget that it's what's on the inside that counts, and how quick we are to judge lest we judge ourselves. My prayers go out to Whitney and her family, may she continue to reach others with her testimony. God does restore lives!

Oh Whitney
We love you! Your fighting the good fight.I hear you singing and I feel your light shining through. It's so so good to have you back.

I was deeply disapointed to hear WHITNEY HOUSTON'S weak voice screech out her songs. Some of the songs she was notorious for singing.I kept waiting for that moment when she would regain her strength and blow " I'm Every Woman" like she use to, but that never came. I guess this is the new Whitney and a new sound. I love the old one better.

Posted by: Brandy at September 2, 2009 5:35 PM

Whitney is an amazing and special talent. I hear in her voice life with the sweets and the sorrows and always have. She sings what we all as humans feel in our hearts. She is a gift from God to the world and the world's a better place because she looks to you and me.

Well this was a disappointment. I am surprised that Whitney would get on TV without her voice. 7years is a long time to not sing and you get out of practice. If the CD is like this I don't want it. I hope her voice comes on in for her. I am a big fan and loved to hear her sing but she was out of breath and her voice cracked.

Posted by: Vickie at September 2, 2009 5:45 PM

It was awful.....Worst I have ever heard from her. she needs to stay in retirement.....

Posted by: sara at September 2, 2009 6:04 PM

Posted by: Ron thomas at September 2, 2009 6:06 PM

I celebrate you Ms. Whitney! It took guts and determination to take your rightful place again after such a battle. GO for it girl! Look past those who have an issue with your vocals- who probably are not even singers, neither understand your passion. If by the grace of God you have garnered a second chance to express your gift then find heaven with it everytime you open up. When others hate let that be a platform for rising to the top! You'll be stronger before you know it! Noone's exempt from mistakes and we are blessed to have second chances no matter how many. There are many of us who need healing through your testimony! Keep going so that those of us who have issues may understand God's grace.

Only one word can describe that performance, HORRIBLE. Period

Posted by: Anonymous at September 2, 2009 6:09 PM

It amazes me that so many people have always blamed Bobby for Whitney's downfall. She is a woman who is quite capable of making her own life decisions.

I pray for her, and I hope that as she continues to sing, her voice will return to its beauty, and I pray for Bobby as well.

Posted by: Anonymous at September 2, 2009 6:11 PM

Keep on singin. Time defintely brings about a change. You go girl!

Posted by: Clara at September 2, 2009 6:11 PM

Hey, Whitney...way to go! When one attempts a comeback you gotta start somewhere, and you did just fine. Looking forward to seeing and hearing more of you. Use the gift God has given you. YOU WILL GET STRONGER!

I was not surprised to hear Whitney's voice crack. I was not surprised to see her winded. For goodness sakes, she is returning after SEVEN years. It's not like it was seven years of relaxation. She had demons and battles to fight. Who looks good after coming out of war? Her war just happened not to be the physical combat we imagine or see when we reference war. Keep pushing on Ms. Whitney!! I am proud of you nonetheless and expect you to only become greater!!

Posted by: Amber Shaw at September 2, 2009 6:28 PM

Remember these words, "THE WILL OF GOD WILL NEVER TAKE YOU WHERE THE GRACE OF GOD WILL NOT PROTECT YOU". You can't please everybody........ But I'm pleased just to know you have the courage and strength to do what it is you love..... SING. By the way Bobbi Christina was awesome.

Be Blessed!

God truly answers prayers. Whitney, I prayed for you during your struggles and I'm continuing to pray for you. Many would say you don't sound the same but out in the open air the acoustics are not like they are inside. Keep on singing, I love your NEW CD.

I encourage you to do what you were gifted by God to do...sing. It may take a lot of courage and time but my God says "my Grace is sufficient for you." Stay close to God, talk to him everyday. He is the only one who can enable you to take courage.Joshua 1:9 says,"Have I not commanded you to be strong and to be courageous, neither thou be dismayed for I am with you always."Stay close to God everyday. He is the only ONE who will not let you down. Dear One it was so good to hear you sing again. God bless you. Turn to Jesus.

If you are not a singer/performer you would never understand what it is like for people to always expect you to sound the same no matter how much you've aged, what the weather is like outside, or if you are just having a bad moment. Believe me, all of these factors can affect your vocal ablility and stamina. I applaude Whitney for having the courage and strength to give her gift to a world of people who sometimes hold performers/entertainers to a higher standard than they can even compare themselves to. All I can say Whitney is keep on giving. Jesus gave until it hurt, but the end result is still touching lives today.

Posted by: Thais at September 2, 2009 7:16 PM

Whitney looks great, and she did her best. I am not sure if she will ever sing as before, because what goes up will come down, and she did shine in her time. With her singing experience, she can take that many ways in life. I don't think that to much pressure she be placed on her at this time. She should take it slow and see what happens.

Posted by: Billyjean at September 2, 2009 7:17 PM

I just luved her performance. It showed total guts, (bet I couldn't have done that) I just happen to like it very much. Please stop kicking a person down when they've only hurt themselves, and they're trying to make things right. Thank GOD her Mama was able to help her come back. I just luved the song. God Bless you Whitney. Soooo happy to have you back, Darling. Keep on keeping on, sweet girl. We've got your back!!! love always

Well I agree with my sister in the above message. "Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone." To Whitney, I am grateful that you are back LOVE. You are the BEST!!!!! May the Lord continue to strengthen your voice & keep you in His Will. You are overcome by your testimony. Sing about it so that others can be Blessed and that they too, can overcome whatever the stronghold is. I truly believe that your voice is a gift to the World. The word of God says, that your gift shall make room for you, WHO WILL YOU BELIEVE!? Love you most much girl. Be Blessed & Be a Blessing... A fan forever!

I love the raspyness in Whitney's voice. I am happy for her. It was obvious that her song "I look to you" is her way of expressing gratitude to all those who have loved her through all her difficulties and has been wishing her well.

In the word's of Maya Angelou, "And Still I Rise."

Posted by: Fam45 at September 2, 2009 7:53 PM

You can't blame everything on Bobby. We get out of life what we choose and her life and partying with him was her choice. You have to give it to her though, it took a lot of nerve to get up in front of an audience after all this time, especially when her voice wasn't up to par. If vocal cords are just like any other muscle, maybe hard work will give her back the use of the magnificent talent she had.

Posted by: Sandy at September 2, 2009 7:55 PM

WHITNEY is now looking to God and all of us for strength. Where she came from, and where she is now, God bless her. Being out of the spotlight for 7 years is a long time and although her voice might not be as strong as years ago, she looks beautiful and it's all about the words. None of us is exempt from trials and tribulations and there is always a treasure through every trial. To those who are judgemental, we could have been watching her funeral on TV instead. Lift up, not tear down.

The world is crying out for the "old" Whitney, but you are a new creature in Christ Jesus. Old things have passed away and behold all things have become new. Allow the Lord to restore you that He will get ALL of the Glory, Honor, and Praise. He is going to strengthen you and your voice for His good work.

I thank God for Whitney's life. It's not easy to perform live and the voice can never be the same. She is the true inspiration to everyone. No matter the depth of the pit the devil throw you in, look unto Jesus because He will surely take you out from that pit. My friends, there is no problem in life that has no solution. I cry when I see people choose suicide in an effort to end their troubles. Jesus can turn your life around and pay back all you lost in those years hundred folds.

The song I look to you reminds me of this battle of cancer that I am enduring and the song I can actually say is me. So when you song it I actually cried just to hear you sing it. Believe me I can relate and it is trul-l-l-y me in the song. I really and truly think you for presenting the song, I think the writer, God, your mother and your all those who are and were there for you. God Bless you and yours. Keep singing!! Hi Ms. Whitney. Thank God for answering my prayers. Not only for your (and Bobby's) recovery, but for restoration with your Mother. I am a Mother of five and have been in that battle. Had it not been for God using my Mother to show me and my children His unconditional love, I/we would not have made it. Your voice will be restored. The latter will be greater than the former. Don't let ANYONE feed you negativity, because no one is the same person they were 7 years ago. (Thank God). Now, I don't know if you will ever read this or bother to respond, but I will give you the same advice my Mom gave me. "Concentrate on getting yourself together. Don't Daddy bash Mr. Brown publicly or privately because as children grow older they will have their own memories and it will turn them away from you." Thank God I listened because you know what? Almost twenty years and 10 Grandchuldren later,I'm finding it to be true. I didn't mean for this to be so long, I'm just so happy for you. Stay strong, stay focused and if you feel the need write back, it would be a blessing to hear from you.

It is so funny that this is what a "weak" voice sounds like- even on my best day I could not phrase a song like this lady does. The first music I ever bought with my own money, was Whitney's. Very few of us know how rigorous the work is that these performers have to go through to keep the public happy.

Whitey, I have heard that you sang horrible. I watched this video and though it really was a beautiful. If your voice is gone from drug use consider yourself lucky that you have been blessed with life and obviously a mother that did not give up on her daughter. if you completely lost your voice tomorrow your still blessed....you have life and I hope that you take full advantage and tell the people that would love you to join them in there misery to kiss your ass.

GIRL, what she go n' do to herself? All that crack smokin' has seriously affected the womans vocals. I'm sorry -- the music industry and music buying public may, for a time, overlook the situation but once the novelty of a comeback wears off, good luck. She's known as being a vocalist. What'll she be if she can't sing? She couldn't realistically tour, not sounding like this and certainly not for very long. Maybe with the technology that's available, it'll help her out with the vocals as it has with numerous others i.e Madonna. At any rate, she'll make a mint with studio albums, if she can hang on to what she's got. Hope things improves. Glad to see she's come full cirle. That alone is inspirational and may be more important when all's said n' done.

I always thought Whitney was a beautiful and her singing was fab and looked forward to a comback. I am glad she is trying to get herself together. But let's face it she sounds more like Tina Turner. I hope things will get better for her. The song is beautiful and I feel for her mom who has been standing by her all the way. But come on folks, if she wasn't who she is noone would give her the time of day with that voice. The producers etc. are trying to give her a 2nd chance so they can hopefully line their pockets...if it flies. But seriously her vocals are not even close to the range she had in the past. The greedy agents and the like are pushing her and she is not ready. Hope it works out for her otherwise she best go back to school and get and education so she can pound the payments with the rest of us!

I feel for her and all but come on. If that was a regular person on the stage trying to sing she would not be getting rave reviews. It's ok to have compassion but objectively it was not all that. It was OK and actually SAD knowing what a grand voice she had and what she has now. If she was on American Idol she would been voted off. Bottom line is we all make mistakes that affect us. Maybe her voice will come back as strong as it was, but if it doesn't, it's the price she pays for the mistakes she's made. We all have to pay for the road we choose. It's just the way it is! I wish her the best. This is just another example of what happens when we abuse the gifts that are given to us. Even though we'd all like to turn our mistakes around sometimes we cannot, and these are lessons learned. When God closes one door another one opens. Thanks Whitney for showing us that the glitz and glamour of hollywood and the music world is not all what it appears to be and sometimes it destroys people. Stand strong cause whatever the battle God will see you through.

she was obviously emotional! Listen to any amazing artist, Michael Jackson, Etc. and they sound quite different when live and emotional.
Good lord people

First I would like to say when you have God in your life All Things Are Possible, and some say that her voice was up to par. Let me tell you, Ms Whitney Houston was off the chain. I never doubted her and strength because of faith. For those who don't believe, you better start believing, because we do fall but with Jesus Christ we Get Up and Whitney did get up. Whitney stay as you are I have been a fan since day one. I always knew you were coming back and I kept you and your family in my prayers. When I purchased the cd I knew you were back. The song I Look to You is so moving I can't get enough of it and to R. Kelly for writing you a beautiful song. As a musician to another "Great" and Welcome Home. Make sure you put San Antonio on list as a stop when the tour starts. I will be right there. Love You Ms. Houston and God Bless You.

Ms. Houston: Continue to hold on to Gods' Deliverance. And may you continue to hold His words and your testimony close to your heart.
I rejoice!

Beautiful and moving WHITNEY! To those who sit in their own ignorance don't judge if you haven't gone thru a battle in your life. We all get thrown curves or take wrong curves our selves but we have to gather strength within ourselves to do better. At Least whitney is taking that step and i commend her for that! a lot of people kill themselves but she chose life!

It just sounds like she is holding back tears. Everyone voice changes or sounds different when they cry and or want to cry. I love the song!!

Whitney, I'm glad you are back. I knew you would over come it as long as you had faith in God. We all go through things in life and none of us is without sin. Keep your head up and don't let nobody take this comeback from you and your voice sound fine to me. That song brought tears to my eyes and it touched my heart.(I LOOK TO YOU)

God takes ashes and turns it to beauty! Whitney is going THRU the fire...and the Lord is walking with her. Her voice isn't suppose to be as strong as it once was because God isn't thru with her yet. That is for Him to repair. He hasn't restored her voice yet because He wants her to continue Looking to Him for all things, as we should all do. All she has to do is stay faithful. Glad she was brave enough to get on that stage and do what she was born to do and that is sing. God will grant her the desires of her heart! Her voice will come back and be even greater than before!

So nice to see and hear Whitney back on the scene! We missed her! Lord knows she'll have some "life experiences" to add more depth to her singing and song writing. Welcome back!

Welcome back Whitney!!! May God Bless You for your courage and strength! Many drug addicts need to see that there is hope and that people can overcome for the better! Keep up the great work and the passion I hear from your soul!

WHITNEY, IT WAS THRILLING TO SEE YOU AND HEAR YOU AGAIN. YOUR BEAUTY SHINES THROUGH ALL THE MORE BECAUSE OF THE PAIN YOU HAVE BEEN THROUGH. YOU SHOW A CHARACTER AND STRENGTH AND VULNERABILITY THAT WEREN'T THERE WHEN YOUR VOICE WAS PRISTINE. MAY GOD BLESS EVERY GOOD THING THAT YOU DO FROM HERE ON - I KNOW HE WILL. OH, AND I LOVE YOUR NEW SOULFUL SOUND.

Whitney was and always will be blessed with voice. I don't believe anyone can take that from her. She gave a good performance to a heart renching song. She has matured as we all do. Most of us could not sound as good as she does on a great day with coaching. But, I do think Whitney is spiritually tired. Bobby Brown should got to jail for what he did to her spirit. But then again he is in his own jail. We make the not wisest choices in a partner sometimes. But God also gave us the gift of healing of the heart and spirit. When Whitney is fully healed from the past years of her marriage she will soar even higher than before...in a healthier and mature way. We are so harsh and unforgiving the U.S. Hopefully we are not judged as we judge others.

UGH... That was an awful performance! I love Whitney, but, honestly, that sucked....Majorly. Somebody get that woman back to the vocal coaches, STAT!! I have faith that she can regain strength and ultimately her status as a performer, but THAT WAS NOT IT! Love ya Whitney, BUT YOU GOTTA DO BETTER!!
God bless in all your efforts!
