World's Last Tortoise May Be A Dad!

As seen in the video above, Lonesome George is officially known as the last Giant Tortoise in the world. But his keepers in the Galapagos have been trying for years to help the tortoise become a father, by helping him breed with females from a similar species.

Lonesome George in the world record books as the oldest and last giant tortoise, and was thought to be out of luck on ever having kids, but it looks like he might have one more shot as one of his female friends recently laid five eggs! It remains to be seen whether any new baby tortoises will emerge, but scientists have their fingers crossed that the last tortoise standing will now become a dad.

Last remaining tortoise? How about last tortoise of his species? There is more than one Galapagos giant tortoise species and there are some living.

Good Luck Lonesome George! This world will be a lot more sad, when you are gone!

Sad to hear about lonesone George, the last giant turtle,
He lived this long, unable to ride this last hurdle,
For nowhere on the island could be found his girlfriend,
Oh sure, other species are there to heal and mend,
But it is not the same.
So now we wipe off another giant, sad but true,
And hope and pray he ends up not a native fondu.
