Idaho Scientists: Worm Crazy!


In Idaho some scientists are jumping with joy after getting their hands on one of the most mythical and rarest creatures in science. On March 27th the University of Idaho researchers found the extremely rare type of earthworm found only in this region, that grows up to 3 feet long and actually spits.

"The giant Palouse earthworm is critically endangered and needs the protection of the Endangered Species Act to have any chance of survival," .Said one of the biology experts studtying the worm. "Sometimes reaching three feet in length, white in color, and reportedly possessing a unique lily smell, the giant Palouse earthworm is found only in eastern Washington and northern Idaho and would be a tragedy to lose."

Scientists at the University of Idaho have captured two specimens of the fabled giant Palouse earthworm. After years of searching, researchers on March 27 located an adult and a juvenile specimen of the large, fragrant worms that have become near mythic creatures in the Palouse region of Washington and Idaho. The adult specimen was positively identified by University of Kansas earthworm expert Sam James a few weeks later.
