Way to know ya breaks. Yo Eric I just peeped ya website. You out here in L.A.? Yo, who do these kinda blends out here? I already went to Fat Beats on Melrose and they ain't know what I was talkin' bout. -Black People Posted by: Black People at May 15, 2006 1:34 PM Sitting at my computer here in Khartoum, Sudan enjoying this Rare-groove Blend(I'm a Londoner by birth and these beats were hard to get back in tha day) The Don Blackmon track was large at house parties in London in the 80's
Posted by: Paulie at May 15, 2006 3:20 PM Some of the breaks I know offhand, but I gotta be honest... a lot of these i had to cross check from the songs that sample them. as far as what L.A. DJs do this sort of thing... i been out of the scene for a minute, but J-Rocc definitely gets down with breaks. he's probably my favorite. i haven't been to the Root Down, but i'm sure they do break sets there. DJs at the Gabah/Chocolate Bar often do a similar treatment with hip hop, reggae, etc. and of course, Cut Chemist and Shadow are legends in the break game. PB Wold, Egon, etc... those guys are deep into that ish. i think i could actually drop about a dozen more from this mix, but to be honest... it's not always as easy as just knowing the title. sometimes i catch a tiny snippet that was used and then my brain convulses until i remember some obscure 12" from like 1997. the-breaks.com finishes the hat trick. But yo... definitely big up and thanks to 3D for the mix and everyone else for the ids. also... BP... if you ever want to exchange some music... hit me up. Posted by: Eric Nord at May 15, 2006 3:45 PM Frieda Payne "Unhooked Generation" Posted by: Eric Nord at May 15, 2006 9:36 PM That shit is ill no doubt indeed, now here,s my question how do I get your mixes like this one on cd?? Can I order some I,ll pay- get back at me... Posted by: Hector Gonzalez at May 15, 2006 10:24 PM Foxxy "Mademoiselle" Posted by: Paulie at May 16, 2006 3:40 AM BP... hit me off with an email and i'll give you some info. Posted by: Eric Nord at May 16, 2006 12:46 PM I love these songs...It made me remeber the days I use to listen to real Hip Hop on the radio. Posted by: Miss Roxy at May 17, 2006 1:45 PM it was so simple when it was two turntables and microphone - where did it all go wrong? Posted by: dj alerted at September 4, 2006 3:51 PM |
