Nas on Colbert Report part 1

Nas on Colbert Report part 2

(my bad, the very end cuts off due to how redlasso is set up. but you do see the important part, which is my 1.5 seconds on the screen in back.)

That was some sick shit when Nas said the guns in the ghetto come from Israel. I hope the authorities crack down on this hate mongering Obama fanatic crowd soon. Nas all but called for O'Reilly to be harmed..this RAP shit is seriously SICK!

Linda fyi, it's not totally clear if you supported Nas' appearance on Colbert or hated it. And Nas actually does speak the truth about those guns, do your research if you don't believe it.

Like all of my favorite rappers, and really, many of the best rappers--and to some extent all great media and mediators, though especially hip-hoppers-Nas has an uncanny ability to indict peoples notions of reality. In short he flips the script, bangs your whole shit up. His comments, eloquently and simply framed as a question were incisive: How did guns get from Israel (especially) and Austria, to my neighborhood in the Queens Borough Projects in New York?

In my mind there is no more succinct and artful approach to the notion of "acting locally and thinking globally." Nas' rap, especially for those that do not just "half-listen" (Hip Hop is Dead), indict the often overlooked way in which we (and by we I mean many Americans) have the proclivity of becoming mindless consumers, in what we watch, in what we buy, in what (militarized) policies we support financially, ideologically, and politically, until they, like the illegally confiscated, though just as easily legally purchased Israeli artillery that make it into our communities every day.

I have blabbed on long enough though and rappers can say better than any writer ever could--shit, that's why they're rappers. Check out Nas' new album Nas, he articulates the psychic disillusionment of young black urban males better than I ever could, which is why Listen to his music--not just consume, but listen.

To Linda5432... The guns do come from Israel and Austria??? Are you retarded. Glocks are made in austria and Uzis and desert eagles are made in Israel. Why don't you let someone who actually knows a little more than you about guns (Nas) have his time on national tv. I don't agree with Nas that anyone should be blamed except for the people buying guns because its no conspiracy.
