Paul Pierce is getting fined $25,000 by the NBA for apparently flashing a (Piru) gang sign at Al Horford during a game last year, and now the NFL feels compelled to scour through all their game tapes to see if any of their players are doing the same. No word yet on what will be the penalty for the 83.9 million suburban teenagers currently flashing gang signs on Myspace. Any thoughts on this?

...Gang signs in pro sports gained a higher profile during the NBA playoffs, when Boston Celtics captain Paul Pierce was fined $25,000 for making "menacing gestures" toward the Atlanta Hawks' bench during a game.

Paul Pierce was contrite at the time, saying in a statement "I 100 percent do not in any way promote gang violence or anything close to it. I am sorry if it was misinterpreted that way."

"We were always suspicious that [gang-related hand signals] might be happening," said Mike Pereira, the NFL's vice president of officiating, according to the report. "But the Paul Pierce gang sign video is what brought it to light. When he was fined … that's when we said we need to take a look at it and see if we need to be aware of it..."

I don't think Pierce is afraid of anything, except ruining his career of course. So he has to lie, just like our presidential candidates. But physically he's not afraid of anything. He's from the mean streets and has already been stabbed to near death. What's left for Paul? Getting shot? You don't feel the pain for long when a bullet hits your head!

We all know that all he wanted to do was throw up the middle finger. The other guy was "yapping" at him - so he was mad. Who wouldn't be?

Paul Pierce threw up the "blood, sweat and tears" sign that many people in Boston have been using for years. It was his way of telling rookie Al Horford: "You haven't put in enough work in this league to talk trash to me."
