Steve Bing Paid For North Korea Flight

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

As America continues to celebrate the return of the two young journalists from North Korea, new details continue to emerge, including the tidbit that their flight, which they shared with President Bill Clinton among others, was paid for by weelthy shwbiz mogul and major Democractic donor Steve Bing.

Steve Bing is one of Hollywood's richest men and is perhaps best known for his brief but drama-filled relationship with model and actress Elizabeth Hurley. There ought not be any ethical concerns or scandal tied to the revelation, which came from the owner of the company that provided the jet. Perhaps someone will try to make something out of the Democratic donor angle, but do we really want to look for negativity in this story? I'd rather just be thankful these two women made it home.

I do not care if President Bush, the Pope or who ever payed for it, I am just glad they are home.

it is nice to know that there are still a small amount of people in the country that will help out others when they are in need.
good job to you, you should be proud of yourself for not asking for anything in return.

We must be thankful to Mr. Bing and glad that there are still people out there who care about others and lend out a helping hand!

I guess it helps when you know people in high places -- (Al Gore being their boss). Glad they are home -- but what the hell were they doing there to being with? And what about the stupid hikers who were captured in Iran? Hopefully they have a famous relative who can get them out as well.

Why should I or you care who paid for the trip. Mission accomplished, job well done.

I was told many years ago to 1-Assume nothing;and 2-The possible is possible but the impossible takes a little longer.I am just a very ordinary but nevertheless an honourable Englishman and my heartfelt thanks go out to all concerned whom in their unstinting efforts resulted in the ladies safe return .My feelings were personified in the hug the little girl gave to her mum.Although we live in bewildering times;events do some times show that we have not quite lost the love for those we have never met.

Why are we spending any money on 2 people that did not belong there anyway. We waste so much money bailing out these stupid people that get themself in trouble in different countries for what a story. come on

Posted by: mindreader at August 6, 2009 4:07 PM

I am truly glad they are home but my question is why would you think you would be safe in a country so wrought with distrust for America? Any common sense should have prevailed. DON"T GO TO THESE PLACES

Posted by: Steve at August 6, 2009 4:11 PM

what did mr. bing get out of this little trip --the american pubic should start look deeper at this type of recovery

Posted by: vick at August 6, 2009 4:24 PM

Thank you Mr. Bing. I don't care if you are Democrat or Republican or whatever!!! You have proven that you are a human being with a generous spirit and that is what counts. May God bless you!

There must be something wrong with this junket. We just need to dig deeper.

I am happy these young ladies are back home. I personally don't care who paid for it or why. I just thank Mr. Bing and pray that the ones that think there are sinister motives for unselfish acts should hope that if they were in the same situation he would do the same for them.

and for people like you VIC that can't just leave things alone and be glad there are others who help without having to put their personal stuff out there. why can't people like VIC just stop digging and digging?????? so in otherwords VIC, it must not be any of your business.

Posted by: lue at August 6, 2009 4:48 PM

What did Mr. Bing get out of it? Notariety. And that equals money in his business. Was it a nice gesture.... yes. Could the US government afford to send one of it's own planes and avoid the whole appearance of impropriety.... absolutely. Would that have been a better way to go.... you bet! I'm glad they're home, but Mr. Bing did this so people would know he did it.... if not, we wouldn't be reading about it. Generosity is nice, but anonymous generosity is the true measure of good will. Do the right thing BECAUSE it's the right thing..... not for the notariety.

Posted by: Mike at August 6, 2009 4:52 PM

Just because a Democratic pays for something himself (as opposed to the taxpayer trough, doesn't mean it is nefarious. Staunch Republican, you are thinking like a Dem.

Posted by: Steve at August 6, 2009 5:00 PM

You mindless Zombies should be outraged! Not only did the American tax payer pay for it, We are celabrating the fact that Al Gore's employment agency is making unauthorized trips into North Korea and asking the state department to fix it's burps. Al Gore should be billed for the millions of dollars (and the carbon footprint of the air liner that flew Clinton over there)the taxpayer had to cough up in secret service expense that it take to fly an ex president halfway around the world to a nation that wants to nuke us.

Glad they are back, but next time a rogue reporter wants to go out and do their own thing they should get their 12 years hard labor.

Posted by: Kevin at August 6, 2009 5:36 PM

Yes, while I agree with many that no matter who paid for the flight, 2 Americans are home safe and sound. What bothers me is that they did not KISS THE GROUND when they stepped foot on American soil and thank God for a safe return.

Posted by: Tim at August 6, 2009 5:39 PM

As for the person who calls the kids who were backpacking in Iran, and the Journalists who were arrested in Korea "stupid", does that mean they deserve, because of a mistake, for thier lives to end? They were victims, and good hearted people came to their aid. How can you hate that?

Posted by: donald at August 6, 2009 5:42 PM

For all of you with the negitive responses, think about if it were one of your loved ones. I bet you would not care if someone paid for a plane to get them home safely regardless of where or why they were there. Funny how alot of people can only have an open mind when it suits their own needs. What it must be like to live with a heart without feeling??? Thanks to Mr. Bing and President Clinton, 2 more of our own are back safely and can enjoy the freedom we all take for granted.

Posted by: Scott R at August 6, 2009 5:47 PM

Hey Scott R. Can I borrow 1000 bucks? Please? I promise I'll pay you back.

Posted by: Kevin at August 6, 2009 5:49 PM

I don't care who paid for the ride as long as 2 Aericans are home safely. Oh by the way, did I miss the news reel where they KISSED AMERICA SOIL and THANKED GOD FOR THEIR SAFE RETURN?

I took the events as a feel good moment, where Americans joined together to help one another. I am shocked that anyone would make that into something evil. Just take it for what it is and don't ruin this wonderful moment with conspiracy theories. Thank you Pres. Clinton and everyone involved.

Posted by: Mary Davis at August 6, 2009 6:01 PM

Why is everybody so excited? I have never woke up and decided today is the day I want to go play on the Chinese/North Korean border. The same way I have never woke up saying this is the day I want to rob a bank. They knew what they were doing as seasoned reporters and what the possible consequences were. I think they should have spent a couple years in there to put some common sense in thier heads. They are not innocent 4 year olds that wondered outside the sandbox.

I am sad to see all the negative reaction to the happy ending we watched this week. What's wrong with people these days. This ridiculous divisiveness is going to destroy this nation.

God Bless Mr. Bing. It seems it took a rich and generous man to be able to provide a jet. So why do some people in Washington DC strive to bring down the wealthy? In this case, a wealthy man proved to great advantage and two Americans are home. We should have more and more wealthy Americans to thrive. Who knows, I may need one someday.

We just don't care about 2 Asian girls Bill traded against the dignity of the most powerful nation in the world. The North Koreans could not figure out how these 2 Asian girls that look just like them - crushed face and tiny swollen eyes would betray their Asian descents/culture to apoint to be used against them.

Posted by: john smith at August 6, 2009 7:54 PM

I overheard the clinton said during their 08 campaign that they will never talk to our ennemies listed in the Axis of evil? What progress or improvement North Korea has shown so far different from its evil plan to nuke us, that could justify such a wasteful trip to rescue two Asians living in the US? It just does not make sense.

Posted by: C at August 6, 2009 8:12 PM

I guess everyone thinks we should negotiate with terrorist also. I promise the leader of N. Korea did not release them for nothing. Typical dems. Open your eyes. Nothing in this world is free.

Posted by: harvick20 at August 6, 2009 9:55 PM

Thank you Mr Bing, I hope it was done from the heart and no strings attached. I know you rich guys don't always do something for nothing.

Posted by: big daddy at August 6, 2009 9:55 PM

Noble gesture but I think we should have left them there. So much for "We don't negotiate with Terrorists" I have 2 issues with this rescue. Leaving those 2 there would have told others that, if they want to go where's it's unsafe they are on their own. Fewer would wander into the Lions Den then. Second--WE are going to see more countries arresting US Citizens now because they see that as leverage against us to negotiate for what they want. It's a joke that these 2 women whose families probably haven't shed a single drop of blood defending this country go into harms way and put the security of the United States at risk and are then deemed "angels" by the sheep. Like some others asked "What did we give up to get these 2 back?"

Posted by: jamstan at August 6, 2009 10:40 PM

Have we forgotten why this two idiots got arrested in the first place. They were breaking the law. We must respect any souvereign nation, and the laws that it creates. Unfortunately, in America, we're so used to Mexicans coming across our borders illegally that some of us (at least the liberal left that work for Al Gore), think that it's OK to do in any country. They should have left them in jail for 12 years to remind us that you need to cross international borders legally. What do you think I'd say about the 3 idiots that crossed the border into Iran? You guessed it.

Posted by: Mark Walker at August 6, 2009 10:42 PM

I am very glad to hear that Mr. Bing payed for the flkight to and from Korea. Before knowing that I was prepared to write the State Department demanding that they send a bill of collection against to the two reporters demanding that they repay the government for the flight. In saying this I was assuming that they knowingly entered North Korea which means that their arrest was their fault. Of course if the North Koreans had grabbed them in Chinese territory than it would not have been their fault. The question then is where were they when they were arrested?

Posted by: F. Schieck at August 6, 2009 10:46 PM

What the heck were they doing there in the first place. They should have known better. It just makes things more complicated for America when someone does somthing stupid like this. The same goes for the ones in Iran.

Posted by: ed at August 6, 2009 10:56 PM

WE should also thank the Chinese for making it happen.

Posted by: J Tatum at August 6, 2009 11:42 PM

Thank you Bill Clinton, thank you Al Gore, thank you Steve Bing, Why is the whole world not looking at people and asking them if they are okay, and if not, help them with anything that they possibly have the power to help them with? I seen your beautiful heart and I thank god for you. Looks are skin deep, personality is a reflection of our soul and of how we want to project ourselves to people. But the Beauty in our heart tells no lie. I knew from the beginning that the two of you had beautiful hearts, Steve Bing I am sorry I do not know who you are but oh I really could use your help with just one thing and it's not much. May God Bless all three of you and your families. Once again thank you that was a wonderful thing you did.

I have a dream to help people who are struggling it seems that when people are down they just keep getting kicked down further and further I know because my family has been there. There are a lot of people in need and I would like to start up a not for profit company for these struggling families. I can not begin to tell you about our life when our kids were small the evenings of no food but I managed to make tortillas out of flour, baking powder, salt and water; I am caucasian but when it comes to your children food is food; that was dinner nearly every evening for them while I went without until I got past the hunger on water and coffee only and was not hungry anymore. Any way I know the heartaches I know the pain and embarrassment and I know the gratitude of being helped at a time of despair. I really would like to help these people it is my dream and it's so funny that I don't even have a car myself and I am even laid off but I know one thing one day I pray that I will be able to help everyone. You see I am the type of person who like my two daughters I want to save the world I have so many ideas but I am just as poor as the rest of the people only I have a roof over my head and my husband of 22 years has a descent job. I am sure that this is in vain only because I never get an answer from any body. Thank you for rescuing them thank you very much it made my heart smile. I don't call myself begging I want to stop the hungry starving kids from starving and dieing in other countrys across America and I want to stop the disturbed men from hurting and killing any more little children I'm sorry I know this is not the place to discuss this but like my husband says I want to save the world yes it is true. I love your BEAUTIFUL HEARTS!

Posted by: anonymous at August 7, 2009 1:32 AM

Before anyone leaves a silly remark I forgot one ingredient for those tortillas shortening but I used canola oil. Thats just the kind of remark a person might make, that's the kind of America we live in today. Just thought I would save some smartalic the trouble.

I cannot stomach most of what I have read here and I agree with the "rogue reporter" not having the commom sense to stay away from the border.. They are home and I am happy for them. May other young idealists learn from this: eg; the young men captive in Iran. I say to them: not so fun now is it ?? What a foolish thing that they did. I have little sympathy for them.

Posted by: nan branch at August 7, 2009 2:14 AM

Thank you Mr Bing .I really think it was a great gesture of you to do such a thing in these times of wickedness. The world seems to be so evil that whenever a sun ray beams through its such a awsome sight to see. God would it not be so much better if there were more sunny days in this dark world !!!!!
