Brasilintime Live in NY

Derf Reklaw Cut Chemist, J Rocc and Madlib

Caught a nice little show last night put together by Brian Cross aka B+, maker of Keepintime and Brasilintime. More photos here.

Along with a preview of the Brasilintime film we got an extended jam session pairing J-Rocc, Cut Chemist, Madlib and Brazilian all-star DJ Nuts on the wheels and Paul Humphrey, Derf Reklaw on drums, along with someone who's name I didn't catch but he totally stole the show, playing everything from a gong to an old fire extinguisher.. can anyone ID this guy for me?

EDIT: His name is Cyro Baptista. Thanks to Incognegro for putting me on the right track..

the poster mentions drummers Derf Reklaw, Paul Humphrey and Joao Parahyba - is the latter him?

I don't think that was Joao judging by his photo here.. the host was saying something that sounded like "Batiste" (presumably it was not Russell Batiste of the Funky Meters)

i think it's david matthews... he used to do some funky stuff with JB and was just in waxpoetics.

just a guess though

Ha, I knew I saw you there. You was the only light-skinned brother there. ha

That show was pretty sick. My boy snuck up into the afterparty and passed out our vinyl to Madlib, J-rocc and Cut Chemist. They were having good times. Mr. Humphries was in the pocket for 2 plus hours straight. Damn!!!

Peace (Jerome's boy)DJ Priority

Also , thanks for the love on Cyro.
Yes, the crazy sick guy is Cyro Baptista. He's a Brazilian percussionist based in NYC who has played with everybody from Sting, Herbie Hancock, Paul Simon, J-Z, Phish ... you name it.
His band, BEAT THE DONKEY is an awesone, beat-busting rhthym blast extravaganza. Check out his website :

BTW, Cyro loved the photo you took.
Can he post it on his website ?
