Sirius Black Turns Into a Dog

The Harry Potter books are full of symbolism and metaphors that kids can identify with, if they feel like they don't fit in or they have secrets & qualities that make them different. The most prominent is Harry's magical abilities and how they are frowned upon and forced to be a secret when he is with his Muggle family. But there are many other such instances in the book of people who have to deal with being seen as different or hiding a part of themselves, and one of those is Sirius Black, who is different from most people because he turns into a dog.

Sirius Black was one of the post formidable wizards in the Harry Potter series, a close ally to Harry and old friend of his late father, which led him to become a father figure to Harry, after overcoming the outrage of being framed for the death of Harry's parents long ago. Sirius was sometimes an outcast because he turned into a dog, but also was able to use it to his advantage as well. And like just about any Harry Potter character, he is 800 times cooler than anybody in those mopey Twilight books.

Sirius Black III (c. 1959[1] - June 17, 1996) was a pure-blood wizard, son of Orion and Walburga Black and elder brother of Regulus. Although he was the heir of the House of Black, Sirius disagreed with his family's belief in blood purity and defied tradition when he was sorted into Gryffindor instead of Slytherin at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which he attended from 1971 to 1978. As Sirius's relationship with his relatives deteriorated, he gained great friendship in James Potter, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew.
