..........silence is the best prayer, because it signifies acceptance and a lack of ego, which is always dirty in the presence of god...... at our very best we are but filthy rags in his presence....

I'm surprised he was only 73; I would have guessed he'd been around a lot longer than that. Only 8 years older than George Clinton.

Terrible..

He is forever the Godfather of Soul, and will be missed.

R.I.P. he was planning a New Years show so this is unexpected. At least he always got up and did his thang. What a tribute he'll have. Thanks for the music James.

This is so flicted.

And listenin' to NAS' "Where Are They Now?" with the Get Up Get Involved break only makes it that much worse.

RIP The Godfather of Soul, R&B and Hip Hop.

(Smooth, is a JB breakathon ensuing?)

As a young kid growing up in uptown NYC, there simply was no one as important as James Brown. I watched his essence become the core of Hip-Hop and all that followed. We all know he was at the core of Soul, Funk, Disco and R& B as well, but it is rarely mentioned how huge his influence was on Rock. From Mick Jagger to Led Zeppelin to David Bowie on up to current acts. Respect is due on every level. James Brown: top five dead or alive, in any genre of music, period.

I still can't believe he's gone! It seems like all of our legendary brothers and sisters are being taken away....which one of us is next??

R.I.P. James Brown, The Godfather of Soul

There will NEVER be another like him, and he will be missed :(

Damn James was such a big influence on hip hop.
God bless his soul, son. Not to get off topic but "where are they Now" was really a dope track on the old skool mc's huh?

It was classic, NY, classic.

I finally listened to that Lupe Fiasco album, too.

i havent heard the Lupe stuff yet.
shits wac huh?

Posted by: NYCKING at January 7, 2007 3:55 PM

Mad wac.

Kinda like some experimental shit.

Yo, you know how they said he said he ain't never had a tribe album and he ain't never gon get one?

Well first, I ain't believe that. I was like "come on."

But yo after listening to this wack shit, it's obvious he NEVER heard a tribe album or any dope shit for that matter.

All he ever heard was Jay-Z and Kanye West.

Dude was corny. Rhyming at one speed. Nothing really quotable. And long ass irritating ass verses.

75% of his album was produced by his homie. Some sucka-ass unknown who ain't got no records. Pure laptop beats. I think they are called 1st and 15th or some shit.

Not a single scratch on that entire album.

That shit sittin' in front of my door. So I can take it back. The vinyl shop out here will let you trade that shit in.

I'm a trade that shit in for the Hawaii Five O soundtrack. It's mad breaks on there.

But on that same day when I got the Lupe album, I was able to find the old McGruff album and he got that jawn on there with Mase and Big L and this fly jawn I never heard called Harlem Kidz get busy.

That's my new shit.

I had to bump that after that wack ass Lupe album.

Whoa? Harlem Kids Get busy??
sounds ill. what is it a mixtape?
damn i gotta cop it

Posted by: NYCKING at January 11, 2007 12:28 AM

I gotta figure out someway to post the music that I have in my iTunes library for everyone.

I tried to buy an iTunes "mix" page but you can only upload the songs that are sold on iTunes.

I don't buy music from iTunes. All my shit is from my vinyl.

So it's times like this when I wish I could be like Yo go to my page and listen to the McGruff jawn.

But it's two jawns on the album that er'rybody slept on. One is the one that got Big L and Mase and the other is the solo jawn with McGruff holdin down three verses called Harlem Kids Get Busy.

I can't believe we talkin' about this shit almost ten years after the fact.

I think when it came out we was all like aw here go another versace dude talkin that rah rah rah.

But those two cuts off the album are bangin.

And on the jawn with Mase and Big L, Mase is Murda Mason not Ma$e.

(Yo did you see that cat get slid on the E-N-J vs Niks battle? They takin' this shit too far. It's on Youtube.)
