2010 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees: Kiss, LL Cool J, the Red Hot Chili Peppers

The list of 2010's nominees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is out, and among the all-star names are Kiss, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and LL Cool J (who still looks young to be a hall-of-famer!)

LL Cool J would be the third Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee representing hip-hop, after Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five and Run-DMC, and deseredly so. Other nominees include The Stooges, who deserve to get in for "I Wanna Be Your Dog" alone, Jimmy Cliff who deseres it for making a movie as kickass as "The Harder They Come", Darlene Love, Kanye West;s favorite sample source Laura Nyro, the Chantels, the Hollies and ABBA.

All these names are worthy, but I'll be rooting for LL most of all! What about you? I sort of want Kiss to lose just because it would be fun to hear Gene Simmons keep complaining about it.

rolling stone

The ballot for next year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class is one of the most diverse ever and includes Red Hot Chili Peppers, LL Cool J, Kiss and Genesis,,,This is Kiss' first time on the ballot, and their wait for a nod has frustrated the band and its army of fans. "There are disco bands, rap bands, Yiddish folk song bands in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but not Kiss," Gene Simmons said last year...

WHAT ABOUT BON JOVI? How can LL Cool J get in before Bon Jovi?

Posted by: alleda radziewicz at September 23, 2009 3:26 PM

the red hot chili peppers???wtf What about Rush, a band that actually deserves to be in??? What a crock of hooey!!!!

Posted by: Greg at September 23, 2009 3:30 PM

The HOF keeps leaving off a very worthy group in Paul Revere and The Raiders. They were hugely popular and ROCKED. The first Rock Group signed by Columbia Records and sold millions of 45's and albums. Plus were a great live group and a TV mainstay on "Where The Actions Is." Maybe that's the backlash against them?

Posted by: Ian Cooke at September 23, 2009 3:30 PM

Love RHCP but is Alice Cooper ever going to be inducted into the HOF?

Posted by: Dennis P at September 23, 2009 3:35 PM

WHAT ABOUT GUNS AND ROSES

Posted by: Rob Howe at September 23, 2009 3:43 PM

The only ones who should be on the VIP list is Red Hot Chili Peppers and Kiss (in that order too). I agree with almost everyone when I say they could have done research and picked MORE WORTHY bands then what I seen listed above. =0).

Posted by: Alfonso Amaro at September 23, 2009 3:48 PM

When is Steve Perry going to be inducted or Journey for that matter? I don't see how a half assed artist like LL Cool J is going to be inducted when there are a ton of other bands out there yet to be.

Posted by: Jon Ansotegui at September 23, 2009 3:49 PM

Posted by: Jon Ansotegui at September 23, 2009 3:49 PM

The fact that Jethro Tull is not in makes the HOF a joke.

Posted by: Richard Hodge at September 23, 2009 3:51 PM

THe Rock and Roll Hall of Shame is what it is. How can they still deny Procol Harum it's due. Still recoreding and touring over 42 years

Posted by: Jeff at September 23, 2009 3:52 PM

LL Cool J?? Kanye West?? Hip Hop is NOT Rock and/or Roll! GET SERIOUS!!
I agree with Ian on Paul Revere and the Raiders. What a Band!!

Posted by: Mike F. at September 23, 2009 3:55 PM

Gotta go with Kiss...none of the others really deserve recognition worthy of a Hall of Fame.

Posted by: Garry Powers at September 23, 2009 3:55 PM

ALICE COOPER should have been in years ago.

Posted by: Rich Mader at September 23, 2009 4:06 PM

Joe Cocker should be in the HOF

Posted by: Jimmy T at September 23, 2009 4:10 PM

I agree 100%---they are getting off the track---Hip Hop is NOT Rock & Roll. Booooo, Hisss, bad decision!

Posted by: Sherry at September 23, 2009 4:12 PM

what is rock and roll and what bands truly made a mark in the industry. those bands should be the ones looked at

Posted by: jack k at September 23, 2009 4:13 PM

As long as Chicago is not inducted into the hall you can't say the best of the best are in.

Posted by: Jose mercado at September 23, 2009 4:15 PM

No Wishbone Ash, No Atomic Rooster, No Savoy Brown? Those HOF dudes really suck!

Posted by: 70'sStoner at September 23, 2009 4:16 PM

Hey what about Steve Perry and Journey? They deserve to be inducted into the Hall. They've been around way longer than LL Cool J. What's up with that? I agree about ABBA like it or not they were very popular back in the day. Their music is still alive with Mamma Mia. But Journey definetly deserves the nomination.

Posted by: April D Breyman at September 23, 2009 4:17 PM

Why is Bon Jovi being over looked? 25 years in the industry & they are still putting out CD's and selling out concerts. They have never got the recognition they deserve. Weren't they the top grossing act last year???? Means nothing I guess except to the fans.

Posted by: Loreli at September 23, 2009 4:18 PM

I agree about tull and journey...how 'bout kansas, heart, and the hollies?

Posted by: rex at September 23, 2009 4:23 PM

bon jovi? you MUST be kidding! how 'bout kansas or heart or even better ...the hollies?

Posted by: rex at September 23, 2009 4:24 PM

Are you kidding me! Where is RUSH..yet again overlooked. So much more deserving than most any on the list.

Posted by: Dave L at September 23, 2009 4:24 PM

rush, the tubes, bonnie raitt....i could go on and on

Posted by: rex at September 23, 2009 4:26 PM

Progressive Rock needs to be recognized.
Rush, Genesis, Yes, Jethro Tull and ELP are all worthy to be recognized as musicians. Pink Floyd is the closest thing to "prog rock," but there should be more.

LL Cool J? Really?

Posted by: Dan Krueger at September 23, 2009 4:27 PM

No Deep Purple. What a joke.

Posted by: Guy at September 23, 2009 4:27 PM

for that matter...is billy joel in?

Posted by: rex at September 23, 2009 4:27 PM

I can't believe they overlooked Bon Jovi AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!! Red Hot Chili Peppers, seriously???

Posted by: kelly at September 23, 2009 4:28 PM

While I agree on most of these choices that people are talking about, I still don't understand how Styx can be overlooked. They are one band that is WAY overdue for the HOF!

Posted by: Styx Fan at September 23, 2009 4:28 PM

What about The dooby brother's ??

Posted by: Machel at September 23, 2009 4:28 PM

for that matter...is billy joel in?

Posted by: rex at September 23, 2009 4:29 PM

holy crap. whoever nominates a hoodrat rapper into the ROCK hall of fame needs help. how about meatloaf the man's debut has sold 46 million copies. or alice cooper a man who single handedly changed rock and has had one of the more successful careers ever in the industry. whoever nominates is losing thier mind.

Posted by: jamie at September 23, 2009 4:29 PM

Why is Stevie Ray Vaughan still missing from this list?????

Posted by: Hoobie D at September 23, 2009 4:32 PM

Jackson Browne gets no respect either!

Posted by: rex at September 23, 2009 4:33 PM

The Hall of Fame is obviously a joke. Bon Jovi is more than worthy and has been for the past 25 years. They were ripped last year also with regard to the "Hall of Fame".

Oh well, the true Jovi fans gladly stand up for their favorite band of all time! Can't wait until their new tour is announced. They kick ass every show!

Posted by: Colette at September 23, 2009 4:33 PM

I vote for Boney M

Posted by: yaba daba at September 23, 2009 4:33 PM

Unbelievable.. Chicago, Jethro, Dooby's, DEEP PURPLE, . This is Rock n Roll. Not a bunch of innercity half a.... poets.

Posted by: Dreeve at September 23, 2009 4:35 PM

good call on stevie...no one since hendrix ripped it like him....maybe the need to just do a big retroactive induction of all the real rockers and songwriters before inducting some trivial hip hoppers!

Posted by: rex at September 23, 2009 4:35 PM

Wait...is it the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or the Rock and Roll and Rap Hall of Fame? Rap is NOT rock and roll. This is exactly why I pay no attention to this Hall of Fame...it is a joke.

How are the Stooges not in already? They invented punk rock. What about Alice Cooper and Joe Cocker??? How are they not in yet?

Those three should be in WAAAAY before we start talking about overrated bands such as Kiss, Bon Jovi and Journey.

As long as this Hall of Fame doesn't get it correct...I could care less. It means nothing to me.

Posted by: Colin at September 23, 2009 4:36 PM

What about the "Crue"???

Posted by: Stacey at September 23, 2009 4:36 PM

right the f--- on dreeve!

Posted by: rex at September 23, 2009 4:37 PM

ahhhhhhh, what about the Moody Blues folks. 1967 or so till current and still going and not a selection YET by now???? Same boat as the Hollies are in I guess. Before we get these more recent ones in who have not been around near as long and earned it as far as longevity, these bands who have been around for awhile and brought alot to the table should be going in alot sooner then some of these others are.

Posted by: Dick at September 23, 2009 4:37 PM

Just a few that sold many many album/cd's.....DEF Leppard,Rush, Dokken, Alice Cooper, MEGADETH, Anthrax, Slayer

Posted by: Anonymous at September 23, 2009 4:37 PM

LL Cool J? Seriously?

Posted by: Kathy at September 23, 2009 4:39 PM

what about grand funk, edgar winter, james gang, bto, styx, steppenwolf and the list goes on

Posted by: jack k at September 23, 2009 4:41 PM

I agree with the Hollies nomination. Shouldn't Heart, Cheap Trick, and Stevie Ray Vaughn, go in before any more hip-hop artists?

Posted by: carl at September 23, 2009 4:46 PM

who comes up with these nominees? LL Cool J? are u kidding? Guns & Roses!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Lisa Ballard at September 23, 2009 4:50 PM

Bullshit take out Kanye west's dumbass and replace him with Rush. When the hell is Dream Theater going to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. I think the whole hall of fame is bull shit this year

Posted by: Christian at September 23, 2009 5:03 PM

First, I think they should rename the museum to simply be the "The Music Hall of Fame". There are many more genres than Rock and Roll.

As for actual Rock and Roll nominees, I'd like to see Kiss and Journey for starters.

Posted by: Ford at September 23, 2009 6:08 PM

Wait Journey isnt in??? how does that happen, i mean i understand Run DMC, but how is journey not there??? oh, what about the white stripes are they in??? i think they should be. and if kanye west ever gets into the rock and roll hall of fame, i agree its a joke. maybe eminem, he actually started a movement, but kanye??? nvm, if you add rap , why not start adding metal to the hall? I VOTE CANNIBAL CORPSE!!!!!!

Posted by: Helio at September 23, 2009 6:49 PM

Why isn't Alice Cooper, Rush, and Guns N' Roses int he Hall of Fame? This thing is being really over rated. I think Each gnere of music should have its own version and the groups and srtists that deservedly so should be inducted in. No offense LL but you don't rock nor do you long the longevity of the other bands I mentioned to be in the Hall of Fame!

Posted by: Anonymous at September 23, 2009 6:56 PM

if it's called the Rock & Roll HOF, how can there be rappers or anyone else that doesn't play rock & roll inducted into to it??????????????????????

Posted by: Bobby at September 23, 2009 6:59 PM

The Sensational Alex Harvey Band was an amazing rock and roll act that the HOF should remember.

Posted by: The Cleavers at September 23, 2009 11:18 PM

what about Dave Mustaine? He/Megadeth did crush Metallica's album, and Metallica's in the HOF? Who the hell cares about Bon Jovi, talk to me about a person that has been to rehab more than 10 plus times and died for 5 seconds and came back to life.

Posted by: jesse at September 24, 2009 12:08 AM

who detemines and what is the criteria for making the HOF..can you give a list of those who made it..There were alot of greats singers and groups who deserve and not in it and why not...It took about 10 to 20 years for the BeeGees which I think is stupid..Where is the Big Bands, and other great singers that should be in they were very talented people and deserve to be recomented to and be part of the HOF. Not just Hip Hop, heavy metal..Where is the Great Soul Singers and Song Writers...thank you

Posted by: floyd at September 24, 2009 12:29 AM

I would personally like to see Deep Purple, as well as their related bands (Rainbow, Whitesnake, The Ian Gillan Band.) Also Jethro Tull would be nice.

Posted by: Brian at September 24, 2009 12:33 AM

Bad Company, Deep Purple, Rush, Dio...?

Posted by: bruddq at September 24, 2009 1:17 AM

WTF!!!! Since when is RAP??? Rock and Roll!?
HOF??? It's just a bunch of corporate idiots who no nothing about music! Who wish nothing more than sell tickets! And make cash!
The only "right" thing to do is call it "Music hall of fame"...
What a farce!!!

Posted by: Steve Weiss at September 24, 2009 1:32 AM

It will never be a true Rock and Roll hall of fame because you refuse to induct the very best. The Moody Blues deserve to be there a lot more than some crappy Rapper. Pull you head out.

Posted by: Alan Dutton at September 24, 2009 1:48 AM

When you see something as aberrant as a rapper being nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame it's normally because someone made a large donation.

Posted by: Vicky at September 24, 2009 1:52 AM

A comment earlier about Jethro Tull not being in the HOF probably results from yrs ago when they were awarded Hevy Metan group of the year....they actually took out a ad in rolling stone...it said......."Flute"...A heavy, metal, instrutment!!!LOL!!

Posted by: Anonymous at September 24, 2009 1:55 AM

sorry about the spelling....Metal...

Posted by: Anonymous at September 24, 2009 1:58 AM

How can you forget "The Miracles" with or without Smokey. They should be in The Hall Of Fame!!!!!

Posted by: Sweet Slim at September 24, 2009 2:08 AM

I think any group that was around 1980 or before should be in before any band, solo artist, or whatever. RHCP is a dam good band but there are others that should be on that list before them. But out of them all The Stooges should be first and then KISS the rest can wait.

Posted by: SSMEN at September 24, 2009 2:21 AM

CHEAP TRICK

should be there. I know of many bands listing them as influence and they have been around so long and still touring.

Most all of the bands mentioned by the posters are more worthy than the ones that were picked. Its not Rock and roll hall a of fame ...

Posted by: Zandersgirl at September 24, 2009 2:33 AM

The fact that YES has never been inducted is a shame, and makes the Rock and roll a joke,YES was the forerunners of progressive rock and just put on the album "CLOSE TO THE EDGE" there still and probably nothing ever will be produced quite like it.The only reason i like the ROCK and ROLL Hall of FAME is cause i use to live in CLEVELAND.....

Posted by: robert at September 24, 2009 2:36 AM

I cannot understand why The Moody Blues continue to be overlooked each year. Their volume of work is incredible. Perhaps they, BonJovi and others might stand a chance if other genres of music artists were not the "illegal immigrants" of the Hall of Fame. Hip-hop has no more business being included with Rock than Classical does--makes no sense.

Posted by: nice2benice at September 24, 2009 3:05 AM

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a joke. LL Cool J??????? You have got to be kidding me.

Posted by: Rhonda at September 24, 2009 6:18 PM

Guns N' Roses won't be eligible until 2012. They're my favorite band and most definitely deserve it when their time comes.

And, it didn't say Kanye West was nominated. It said Kanye West's favorite sample source Laura Nyro was nominated.

I definitely agree with nominations for KISS and the Stooges. :)

Posted by: Vina Vendetta at September 25, 2009 1:21 PM

what about rush iron maiden rainbow y&t budgie frank marino huh

Posted by: javier molina at September 27, 2009 8:53 PM

I grew up in the early 80's and was a rock fanatic so I should be up on most of the inductees because any artist making an album at least 25 years ago (that would be 1985 the height of my rock worship)would be elegible. I cannot even name one song by LL cool J I mean that is not rock and roll period and even if it is was he really that important to get into a hall of fame? Kiss and Genisis should have gotton in years ago same with Yes, Chicago, Rush, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, Doobie Brothers, Iron Madden, Stooges, Todd Rundrend, Judist Priest, Roxy Music. Lets add a few more Cheap Trick, Styx, Journey, Def Leppard, Motley Crue and Pat Benetar. Instead we have the awsome rock power of LL Cool J and ABBA and who the hell is Laura Nyro I mean come on this is a joke. The Hall is run by the jerks are Rolling Stone who just want to have a hip party and make money and they have single handedly ruin rock. From now on my kids and my kids kids will have to look at the rock and roll hall of fame and see idiots like Grandmaster Flash and not the true masters of rock. I mean no Rush and no Chicago but Run DMC what a travesty.

Posted by: JP Alexander at September 28, 2009 3:02 PM

What about the Scorpions, Judas Priest,Saxon, Motorhead,HeadEast,POCO,and so on and so on.Get it right it's the rock and roll hall of fame. If it wasn't for POCO you wouldn't have the Eagles.
