Garth Brooks: Wanted Oklahoma Hospital to Name Building After His Mother


Country music superstar Garth Brooks is known for his commitment to goodwill and charity, but one major donation he made has now turned into lawsuit, as Brooks takes a hospital to court for failing to build a building that was supposed to be after his mother.

Brooks gave the Oklahoma hospital $500,000, and says it was agreed that a building would be named after his mom, but now the hospital is failing to come through on their end of it, he alleges in his lawsuit. In fact, they allegedly never built the building at all, understandably leading him to file the breach of contract lawsuit.

I'm sure someone never wants to sue after giving a donation, but if the hospital really never even built the building at all, I can't blame Brooks for wanting to take legal action. Press reports sometimes make it seem as if he's only suing because his mother's name isn't on a building, but that doesn't seem to be accurate or fair.

According to People.com, the recently unretired singer donated a cool half million dollars to Integris Canadian Valley Regional hospital in Yukon, Okla., to finance a building that would bear the name of his mother, Colleen Brooks, who died of cancer in 1999. But, despite a $27 million expansion project completed in 2008, the hospital never built the promised building...
