Oprah's $1.5 Million Gift

A private middle school in Atlanta's inner city has gotten a whopping a $1.5 million dollar gift from the mighty Oprah Winfrey!

Altanta's Ron Clark Academy announced the major donation onThursday. The innovative middle school has struggled to raise enough money this year in our the sagging economy, to pay for its steep $2.8 million operating budget, bankrolled almost entirely by donors. The school is in one of the city's poorest neighborhoods and is hoping to expand its campus with a cafeteria, gymnasium and theater. Winfrey, who has had school founder Ron Clark on her show twice, donated $365,000 to the school last December. Clark wrote the best-selling teaching book "The Essential 55."

She said in a statement, "I hope my gift will inspire others to join in to support RCA, a place that's not only uplifting students but also training teachers across the globe how to do the same for their students."
