What terrible news, coming on top of his wife's cancer. Best of luck and love to them.

Talk about bad lies and lousy bounces. Phil Mickelson's mother, Mary, was diagnosed with breast cancer last week about the same time his wife Amy was undergoing breast cancer surgery.

Mary Mickelson, 67, is scheduled for surgery Friday at the same hospital where her daughter-in-law was treated, the world-renowned M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Mickelson's sister, Tina, told the San Diego Union Tribune she wanted to make Phil Mickelson's mother's breast cancer condition known so she could receive the same outpouring of support and prayers that meant so much to Amy

"We don't feel like we're alone in this," Mickelson said before competing in the U.S. Open at Bethpage two weeks ago. "And there are 200,000 people that go through this, or get diagnosed with breast cancer alone every year. So we are by far a long ways away from being the only person going through this. So many people do. But to feel that support, it means a lot."

It is not known whether Amy's diagnosis triggered Phil Mickelson's mother into any early breast cancer testing. Early detection played a big part in Amy Mickelson's more optimistic prognosis.

My prayers go out to the Mickelson family. I think Phil is great, as a golfer of course, but as a person. You can tell he is a family man, a great husband and father. May god bless all of your family, and be beside you all through your trying times.

Sincerely
God bless
John

Phil Mickelson is my favorite golfer and I truly wish him and his family the best as they go through this battle with Breast Cancer. I am a 16-year survivor and know what Amy and Mary are going through. Be tough, ladies, and take care of each other. Phil, I know you'll be there for both of them.

God Bless you All,
Phylis

To Phil and his family,
I am a breast cancer survivor of 6 years. I was diagnosed early and everything is fine, now.
I know your two loved ones will be just fine, with all the technology and research that has brought this disease under control.
I am always rooting for you in the golf tournaments. You are strong and I know that will bring your ladies through this.
You have helped many women become aware of their health issures.
God Bless your family.
With love,
Lee

Cancer has taken hold of our family several times. Twice of which were my sister and I having breast cancer a year apart. We had a great support system not only in family, but friends also. You have the love and support of golf fans all over the world, but the best thing is the love that is so obvious between you and that your family shares.Your Mother and Amy are in our thoughts and prayers. We follow you in golf and will look forward to hearing that nyou are all doing well again and you are back on tour.Lee&Byron
